Kenneth B. Steingass, 92, of Defiance, peacefully passed away, with his family by his side on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at The Lutheran Home in Napoleon, Ohio.  
  
He was born on March 8, 1925 to George and Nora (Hornish) Steingass in Defiance County. On June 19, 1947 he married Helen (Frederick) Steingass, who preceded him in death on December 30, 2009.

Kenneth proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked as a Machine Operator at Defiance Precision Products, and at Rems Corp., retiring in 1990. Kenneth was a member of  St. John Lutheran Church in Defiance, Jewell American Legion, and Defiance VFW Post #3360. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, woodworking, machining, and building. He loved to paint, and his grandchildren cherish his acrylic and oil paintings. Later in life he enjoyed playing pool and cards at the Senior Center. Kenneth loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
  
Kenneth will be sadly missed by his son, Leslie (Rebecca) Steingass of Grelton, Ohio, 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, sisters, Mary Lou  (Melvin)  Demland of Holgate, Martha (Bill) Wheiland of SC,  Phylis (Ron) McBride of PA, Jane (George) Brubaker of Jewell, and brother, Ronald (Shirley) Steingass of Defiance. 
  
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Helen Steingass, son, Gerald L.Steingass, sisters Loa Steingass and Beulau Mansfield, brothers, James, Paul, and George Steingass, Jr., and brother Larry Steingass in infancy.
  
Visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Monday, October 16, 2017 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Rev. Donald L. Luhring officiating. Burial will follow the service at Ayersville Cemetery, with military graveside rites accorded by VFW #3360.
