Belle "Jean" McMillen, 87, of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the Toledo Hospital.  
  
She was born on October 10, 1929 to Gerald and Mary (Ricica) Weisenburger in Defiance, Ohio. In 1980, she married Nelson "Bud" McMillen, who preceded her in death in 2012.

Jean was a 1947 graduate of Defiance High School. She earned her B.S. in Education from Defiance College in 1967, and her Master's Degree in Library Science from Ball State in 1970. She taught school in Mercer and Auglaize Counties for 30 years, retiring in 1980. After retirement from teaching, she worked for 5 years at the Defiance Public Library, and was Director of the Paulding - Carnegie Library for 14 years. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, and she loved her poodles dearly.
  
Jean will be sadly missed by her step children, step grandchildren, and many step great-grandchildren, nieces, Diane Diamond, and Sandra Skiver, both of Continental, Ohio, nephews, Bruce Weisenburger, Craig Weisenburger, and Michael Weisenburger of Defiance, Ron Weisenburger and Steve Weisenburger, both of Continental, great-nieces and great-nephews.
  
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Nelson "Bud" McMillen, brothers, James Weisenburger and Robert Weisenburger.
  
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, November 14, 2016 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Rev. Joe Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
