Robert M. Heil, 84, of Defiance, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2017 at Twin Rivers Care and Rehabilitation Center in Defiance.    
  
He was born on May 24, 1933 to Paul and Ellah (Miller) Heil in Van Wert, Ohio. He was a 1951 graduate of Defiance High School. Robert served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. On February 14, 1954 he married Joann (Schatz) Heil, who preceded him in death on April 23, 2015. 
  
Robert was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Defiance, and was a former church choir member, usher, and greeter. He was a member of  VFW #3360 and GBB Local #51. Robert enjoyed bowling, golfing, and lawn care, especially gardening with his wife Joann. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
  
Robert will be greatly missed by his sons, Chuck (Sheri) Heil of Kawkawlin, MI, and Robert M. Heil of Defiance, 5 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, with two on the way! 
  
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Joann Heil, brothers, Francis and Gene Heil, sister, Marie Hale, and brother-in-law James Hale.
  
Visitation will be held from  9:00 to 11:00 am on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 am at the church,  with Rev. Donald L. Luhring  officiating.  Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery, with military graveside rites accorded by VFW Post #3360. Schaffer Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
