Verna M. Coleman, age 89, of Defiance, passed away on  Saturday, March 4, 2017 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance. 

She was born on August 3, 1927 in Hillsdale County, Michigan, the daughter of Harry and Eva (McCarty) Hamilton.  Verna was a 1944 graduate of Jonesville High School. While living in Union City, Ohio she worked at Sheller Globe and later moved to Defiance, where she has made her home since 1968. Verna was the Defiance County Auditor for 16 years, retiring in 1995. A longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, she volunteered at Defiance Regional Hospital and the hospital thrift store, and was a member of  B.P.W. Verna loved to travel, and was in Ireland on 9/11. On August 10, 1957 she married Charles M. Coleman, who preceded her in death in 1974. She was also preceded in death by her first husband,  Jackson D. Marks, son James Marks, brother Robert Hamilton, sister Helen Hamilton, and her parents.
  
Verna will be greatly missed by her children, Patty (JL) Harter of Greenville, Ohio, Kathy (Duff) Parker of Defiance, and Tom (Paula) Coleman of Battle Creek, Michigan, six grandchildren: Tim (Alisa Henninger) Harter, Todd (Jody) Harter, Will (Myra) Parker, Luke Parker, Meghann Coleman, and Mallory Coleman, five great-grandchildren: Cali, Libby, Ellie, Madison, and Isley, sister Josephine Hamilton of Ann Arbor, MI, and three nephews: Brad, Rob, and Dave Hamilton. 
  
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held a 10:00 am on  Wednesday, March 8, 2017at the First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Lynn Bova officiating. Burial will follow at Union City Cemetery, Union City, Indiana.
  
Memorials contributions may be given to First Presbyterian Church, or CHP Hospice Center.
