Roger A. Shock
June 21, 1938 ~ October 31, 2016 (age 78) 78 Years OldRoger A. Shock, 78, of Defiance, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2016 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born on June 21, 1938 in Defiance, the oldest son of Lawrence and Helen (Beindorf) Shock. He graduated from Jewell High School Class of 1956. On June 15, 1958 he married Jeanette Harp. They were married 52 years and had five children together. She preceded him in death.
Roger was employed at Dinner Bell for 33 years. After Dinner Bell closed, he delivered fuel oil for Jewell Oil Company and drove grain trucks for Jewell Grain. Roger was a farmer who loved the land. He was a fisherman, a collector of primitive tools and Indian artifacts. Roger was a member of Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren and the Ford Fordson Tractor Club. He collected and restored Ford tractors.
Roger is survived by his children; Linda (Randy) Wasnich of Hillsdale, Michigan, Gene (Christie) Shock of Bowling Green, Ohio, David (Sue) Shock of Evansport, and Diane Ludecker of Big Rapids, Michigan, and brother Ronald Shock of Evansport. There are seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. On June 27, 2011 Roger married Susan (Wichman) Shock who resides in Defiance. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Jerry Shock.
Roger was a devoted husband and a loyal friend. He will be missed.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, November 4, 2016 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren in Defiance, with Rev. Benjamin Polzin officiating. Burial will follow at Poplar Ridge Cemetery.
