Kim, prior to working for the School District in Defiance, Matthew worked for our company, Koester Metals, Inc., in Defiance. He was a fine young man and a quality worker. Our prayers are being said for him as well as you and your family.

He was an amazing man, he touched the lives of my children and I'll always be grateful for that. He told me during a visit " on the first day of school I always made sure that each child had a friend, even if that only friend was me " rest with the angels my sweet friend

Sandy and family, so sad to learn of Matt's passing. Many times I'd run into Matt at the high school while my daughters participated in activities there, or saw him in Chief Supermarket, and other spots around town. Always he smiled so big, greeted me so warmly, had wonderful conversations with him. He's gone too soon, and I am thinking of you today. Sincerely, Maryjo Birk

To the Wurster Family, I am so saddened to read about the passing of Matt. I always considered him a wonderful friend. I knew him as a student at DMS, a father to Autumn when she was at Brickell, and a great colleague when he was working at Anthony Wayne and I did some substitute teaching there after I retired. He always greeted me warmly and I enjoyed catching up on all the family news. May God mercifully wrap his arms around each of you and give you comfort and peace. Susan Hanenkrath
