Not lived in Defiance now for some years but visit both my mom & dad still with appreciation & gratitude and often and I check the Defiance obituaries daily I found Carrol's passing with regret and sadness.
Often in the past visiting the flower shop & requesting Mrs. Bergman (Dolena) to help me with flowers for my mom on Mothers day. Though I personally did not know him well, the times we did speak, he treated me well as the whole Berman family did.
Primarily for you Mrs. Bergman & Mark whom which I know through St. John's Lutheran, the Flower shop & graduate with you Mark of '81
My condolences and prayers I will say for you and your family.
Carrol was a shining light while on the earth but is definitely being held high by "Jesus Christ our Lord" above. May Peace & Serenity be with your family during this trying time.

Dolena and Family,

Saddened to hear about Carroll while I was on a fishing trip to Alabama.  Boy, I think about the years, way back to our first association with Mark in 3rd grade and Patty in youth.  Throughout the years Carroll was always ready to offer support to Jan&I whenever the opportunity presented itself.  Even through "wisecracks" you could see his genuine concern and caring for you.  He's probably razzing Jan about her organ playing right now!  He will forever be in my memories as a great Christian friend.  May the peace of the Lord support, comfort and encompass you.

To all of the Bergman Family...
On behalf of Schaffer Funeral Home, I would like to extend our condolences to you in the loss of Carroll, your husband, father, granddfather, brother, and our friend and co-worker.  I consider it an honor to have had Carroll as member of our staff.  He was always dedicated to the care of a family being served, or always willing to help out with a project being done at the funeral home.  I must admit I enjoyed all the little pranks he and I would play on eachother as well, and those even continued until last November!!  Good-byes seem to final so from the funeral home staff to our friend and co-worker we say...."See ya later!!"

Uncle Carroll,
You will be missed... thanks for being a Great Uncle and friend.

We pray that in this time of loss,
you'll feel God's love much more
and that you'll find your comfort
in the presence of the Lord

We pray God pours upon you,
His sweet amazing grace
and overflow your heart with peace
as you live in His embrace.

God bless,
- Annette Bergman

Uncle Carroll is deeply missed...memories of past family reunions where Carroll sported his bolo ties & belt buckles with the sweet smell of pipe, or running to the front of the greenhouse to snag an empty cigar box, or his German hat full of pins...thanks for the memories and hug last year...till we meet again Uncle Carroll

To the Bergman family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I have known Carroll a long time. I fist met Carroll when he still worked for the phone company and was Special Deputy. Then I had the pleasure of working with him at the Schaffer Funeral Home. I cannot be there in body but I will be saying prayers for him. God bless your family.

Dolena and family, I am saddened to hear that my good friend, you husband and families dad and granddad has died.  We became good friends while working together at the funeral home.  I wish that I was in Ohio to be with you all but since I married and moved to Texas it will be impossible for me to do anything other than tell you how bad that I feel.  I will miss him dearly, he was a positive influence on me.  Remember all the good times that you had with him!
