Betty J. Goller, 85, of Defiance, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2016, at the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance, Ohio. She was born in Rice, Ohio, on May 28, 1931, to Ormal “Jack” Skiver and Illa (Matson) Skiver. Betty was a graduate of Continental High School, attended Defiance College and worked at Zeller Corporation in Defiance.
On February 16, 1963, Betty married William “Bill” Goller and they shared 50 wonderful years together, boating, skiing, traveling the United States, Europe and Africa. She adored her five grandchildren (Breann, C.J., Devon, Ashley, and Tara), and enjoyed painting, playing bridge, piano, and music.
Betty was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Defiance, the Child Study League, the League of Women Voters, Defiance Society of Artists and the Defiance Hospital Auxiliary. She was a co-founder of the Defiance hospital Pink Geranium thrift shop and a volunteer for Red Cross. Betty served as a Cub Scout den mother and Girl Scout leader, trainer and regional vice president. She was also a member of Salmagundi Art Club, Traveler’s Club, and Wyant Art.
Betty will be sadly missed by her daughter, Natalie Gabel of Maumee, Ohio, son, Thomas (Yumiko) Goller of Los Angeles, California, five grandchildren and many friends.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband, and best friend, William Goller, on April 23, 2014.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 6:00 to 8:00pm on Friday, September 2, 2016, at Schaffer Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 10:00am on Saturday, September 3, 2016, also at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Pastor Joe Payne officiating.
