William “Bill” Francis Spangler, age 58, passed away peacefully at Genacross Napoleon on September 19, 2024.
William was born on April 20, 1966, to parents, Walter and Janice (Schlembach) Spangler. William was a 1984 Defiance High School graduate who enjoyed watching sports, especially watching his nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed buying and selling baseball cards and cheering on teams from up North including the Tigers, Lions, and the Wolverines. His employment was mostly newspapers, delivering for USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and The Crescent News. He was also employed at the Northtowne Mall as a maintenance/janitorial worker.
William is survived by sister, Ellen Spangler in Defiance, brothers, Jerry Spangler (Paige Niehaus) in Dayton and David Spangler (Margaret Charlton) in Holgate, nieces, Anne-Marie (Spangler) and Nathan Miller and children, Brooklyn (Miller) and Spencer Barcewicz and Paxton, Gavin Miller, and Addison Miller; Correena (Spangler) and Jon Obenauer, Kathryne (Spangler) and James Balleweg and Vincent, Kailyn Spangler; nephews, Michael and Dorothy (Hogston) Spangler and children, Emilia, Annabel, and Charlotte; Zachary and Mary (Kunesh) Spangler and children, Genevieve and Eloise, Nathan Spangler, Nicholas Spangler, Cuyler and Abbigail (Miller) Spangler, and numerous cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Janice Spangler; aunts and uncles, Robert and Mary (Imber) Schlembach, Richard Schlembach, Madonna (Spangler) Gilgenbach, Wilbur and Alberta (Spangler) Vogel, John and Mable (Baker) Spangler, and cousins, Daniel Schlembach, Frederick Gilgenbach, and Ann Stone.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Mass of Christian burial will be on Thursday, September 26th at 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. Jason D'Souza officiating. William will be laid to rest at Riverview Memory Gardens.
