Wiley E. Haynes, aged 85 of Defiance OH passed away on November 27, 2025, at home, surrounded by loved ones.
He was born January 26, 1940, to Wiley and Myrtle (Moulton) Haynes in Peoria, IL. Wiley was a 1958 graduate of Woodruff High School. After high school, Wiley served in the U.S. Navy, where he learned computer programming; he also met his wife of 65 years, Kathryn (Matekovich) Haynes.
Together they had 3 daughters, Teresa (Ernie) McDaniel of Hermitage, TN, Pam Haynes of Defiance, OH and Debra (Brian) Hoffman of North Pole, AK.
In his younger years, Wiley served at First Baptist Church in Defiance as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He also spent several years going into prison with the Bill Glass ministry. Wiley loved watching and participating in sports, but he was most enthusiastic about golf and could often be found at the Auglaize Golf Course.
He spent many years as a system analyst at North American Van Lines before retiring at the age of sixty-five. Later in life he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, which he eventually succumbed to.
Wiley is survived by his wife, 3 daughters, 6 grandchildren: Gregory (April) Curry, Cody (Moira Daoey) Hillenbrand, Kayla Kuhlman, Ryan (Amy) McDaniel, Casey (Laura Nienberg) Hillenbrand, and Justin (Reagan) Williamson, and 9 great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Tatum and Riley Curry, Ella and Connor Kuhlman, Mei and Collette Hillenbrand, and Wesley and Olivia McDaniel.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, sister and his best dog Buddy.
He will be deeply missed by all of those who knew him.
