Virgil W. Linebrink, Jr., age 82, of Defiance, Ohio, died peacefully and surrounded by his family on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025. He was born on May 7, 1942 in Defiance County. On July 10, 1964 he married Pamela Kemper.
Virgil was a 1961 graduate of Ayersville High School where he was a teammate of the 1960 State runner-up Basketball Team and then on the 1961 State Basketball Team. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served from 1964-1968. Virgil retired from General Motors in 1997 after 29 years.
An avid golfer, card player and over-all sports enthusiastic, Virgil spent countless hours "coaching" his grandchildren from the sidelines at all their events – from basketball to baseball– he was their "coach." He will be remembered for coordinating family Christmas photos around the tree, offering advice and simply "being there."
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pamela; his daughters, Stephanie (Charlie) Ankney, of Defiance, and Sarah (Dave) Marshall, of Sherwood; son, Seth (Melissa) Linebrink, of LaGrange, Ohio; and grandchildren, Ben (Jen), Emily (Tony), Erin, Natalie (Ashton), Michelle (Luke), Ethan (Kenzie), Katie and Derek; and great-grandchildren, Kyan, Graham, Novalee, Brooklyn, Charlee Sue, Ezra, Sylas, Braxton and Kynlee.
