Theresa Stykemain Obituary

Theresa "Terri" JoAnne Stykemain, age 55 of Defiance, fulfilled her earthly life on Saturday, December 30, 2023 in San Antonio, TX while surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on June 14, 1968 (Flag Day) to John and Mary (Batt) Wagner in Napoleon, OH.  Theresa was a faithful member of St. Michael's Ridge Catholic Church, where she received the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, Confirmation, and Holy Matrimony.  She was a 1986 graduate of Tinora High School and a 1990 graduate of Defiance College.  During high school, she started working at Wendy’s and Elder Behrman.  While in college, Terri embarked on her accounting career with Kroger.  She then went on to work alongside her husband at JFS Trucking, First Choice Auto Sales, Rent-A-Wreck of Defiance, and Stykemain Buick GMC, where she was known for her caring ways, friendly smiles, and positive attitude.  Her best ability was to advise, nurture, and comfort anyone who stepped foot in her office.

In addition to sharing her love with coworkers, Terri was a volunteer at St. Mary Catholic School, collection counter at St. Mary Catholic Church, Past-President of St. Mary Catholic School Irish Boosters, religious education instructor at St. Michael’s Ridge Catholic Church, Past-President of Tinora Football Parents, member of Jewell Volunteer Fire Department, life member of Tinora Athletic Boosters, and member of VFW 3360 Ladies Auxiliary.

In March of 1990, Terri married her high school sweetheart, Joseph "Joe" Stykemain, who survives.  Together, they have a son, Ethan (Jessica) Stykemain of Defiance, and a daughter, Alyndria “Lyndi” (Capt. Bo) Joost of Corpus Christi, TX.  Terri’s greatest moments of her life were becoming Grandma (Mamaw) to her beautiful seven grandchildren; Grace, Walker, Wheeler, and Emmaline Stykemain; Nolan and Piper Joost.  Upon reception home by Our Lord, Terri was greeted by her seventh grandchild, infant Catherine Stykemain.  Terri’s many hobbies, activities, and interests centered around spending time with family.  She enjoyed boating on Lake Erie, attending grandchildrens’ events, Buckeye Football, musical concerts, national wineries, Cedar Point, and collaborating with Joe on their business gatherings.  These activities were cherished most by Terri when shared with her family, a point she made to do above all.  Distance, time, and effort were no obstacles to Terri’s love and dedication to traveling to see her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, children, and grandchildren, Terri is survived and will be sadly missed by her father John C. Wagner of Defiance, father- and mother-in-law Thomas (Judy) Stykemain of Defiance, brother Jeffrey (Lisa) Wagner of Toledo, OH, brother-in-law Randy (Chris) Yoder of Defiance, brother-in-law Jeff (Lisa) Stykemain of Defiance, brother-in-law John Stykemain, brother-in-law James (Wendy) Stykemain of Defiance, and 11 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Cletus and Martha Wagner, grandparents Gerald and Agnes Batt, mother Mary Wagner, and sister Lisa Yoder, all of Defiance.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 10th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and Thursday, January 11th from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance.  A Vigil Service will be at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, January 10th.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 12th at St. Michael’s Ridge Catholic Church with Fr. George Wenzinger officiating.  Burial to follow at St. Michael’s Ridge Cemetery.

The family has established a fund to continue Terri’s caring legacy for generations to come.  Memorials can be made to The Joe & Terri Stykemain Family Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences can be given at www.Schafferfh.com.
