Theresa Overmeyer Obituary

Theresa “Terri” Margaret Overmeyer, age 96, of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Glenn Park in Defiance.
She was born on May 21, 1928 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, daughter of George and Mary Hartman. Terri was raised in Fort Wayne with her five siblings, Lucille Ryan, Robert Hartman, George Hartman, Rose Goleeke and Agnes Woenker who precede her in death.  She was a graduate of Central Catholic High School. She married Donald Richard Overmeyer on February 7, 1953 and they moved to Defiance in 1962. They were married for 70 years before his death on April 18, 2023.

Terri was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She loved her parish and happily served through the years as a member of St. Vincent de Paul Society, church choir, Noodle Club and as receptionist. She was employed by Defiance Hospital and Chief Supermarket.

Terri was an expert Euchre player. She was always ready for a game and taught all of her children and grandchildren how to play. She was also a fitness enthusiast. For many years she was part of the opening crew (5:30 a.m.) at the YMCA where she swam and walked many miles. Even during COVID isolation, Terri walked three miles a day in her apartment at Glenn Park! Terri loved music and in addition to singing in the St. Mary’s Church Choir, she played baritone in the Defiance Community Band. She could often be heard humming and singing her favorite songs. Terri was an active member of the Glenn Park community for the past eight years and loved all of her friends and exceptional caregivers there.
Terri was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Terri and Don were blessed with six sons (born in seven years!). She was extremely proud of them and worked hard throughout her life to support them in their life pursuits.

Cherishing her memory are her six sons: Dr. Richard (Kathy) Overmeyer of Mechanicsville, Virginia, Gary (Barbara) Overmeyer of Powell, Ohio, Dr. Thomas (Lori) Overmeyer of Lake Mary, Florida, Dr. Daniel (Hope) Overmeyer of Sylvania, Ohio, Dr. James (Sarah) Overmeyer of Orlando, Florida and Joseph (Lori) Overmeyer of Canton, Michigan. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Lauren (Paul), Leigh Ann, Jessica, Andrew, Sarah, Katharine, James and Daniel; two great-grandchildren: Madeline and John Paul; six step grandchildren: Cherie, Josh, Julie, Kylee, Kelli and Johnny and seven step great-grandchildren: Hunter, Riley, Hagen, Asher, Duke, Emmy and Ella.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, with a Rosary Service at 4:00 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. Dave Cirata officiating.
