Terry Lee Slagle, 64, longtime resident of Liberty Center, Ohio passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020, at CHP Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center with family by his side. Terry resided his last few years in the Birmingham, Alabama area with his surviving beloved wife Julie (Cymbola) and daughters Amy (Jerry) Hawk and Jackie (Adam) Crandall. He was affectionately known as Papa to his seven grandchildren: Jameson, Anna, Lillia, Mathis, Kiftin, Edmund, and Gideon. Terry is also survived by his siblings Karen (James) Savage, Jon (Garlan) Slagle, Julie (Steven) Vorwerk and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Ida Slagle.
Terry graduated from Liberty Center High School in 1973. He worked in road construction before spending the rest of his working years at Jeep, from which he retired with disability due to early onset Alzheimer’s Disease. Terry knew the importance of hard work and led by example. He taught that sometimes you do things even when you "don't feel like it", that practice makes you better, and that if you work hard you can play hard. Terry faithfully provided for his girls and he would do anything for them. Terry loved time with his family, playing cards, a game of golf, and being out in the woods. He found joy in goofing around with the grandkids. He was often the instigator in many water fights and seemed to be always picking on someone. His time with the grandchildren was never enough and ended too soon.
There will be a causal memorial outside Liberty Center United Methodist Church on Friday, July 10th at 6:30pm. Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance assisted the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests that donations be made to Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice, 6817 State Route 66 N., Defiance Ohio 43512 or Lakeside Hospice, 4010 Masters Rd., Pell City, AL 35128 or to Positive Lights Positive Lives c/o Teresa Carden, for caregiver respite, 580 Seminole Dr., Pell City, AL 35128.
