Teddy Paxton Obituary

Teddy L. "Ted" Paxton, age 90 of Defiance, peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Defiance, Ohio on April 9, 1934 to the late John and Leona (Cooper) Paxton. On October 1, 1960 he married Joan Cummins, the love of his life at St. Mary Catholic Church in Holgate. They were blessed with 64 years of marriage.

Ted graduated from Defiance High School and he proudly served our country in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the VFW Post# 3360, Defiance Eagles #372 and AmVets #1991. He worked at Dinner Bell Foods for 33 years, Olson Cold Storage for several years and also drove school bus part time for Defiance City Schools.

Ted's most treasured time was spent with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather "PoPo". His contagious smile, kindness, and generous spirit will be truly missed by all the lives he has touched over the years.

Ted is survived by his wife, Joan, his loving children Todd (Gayla) Paxton of Piedmont, OK, Tracy Paxton of Round Rock, TX, Amy (Dave) Behringer and Teddy (Lisa) Paxton, all of Defiance, his grandchildren, Ashley (Dace) Lemieux of Blanchard, OK, Connor Behringer of Columbus, OH, Audree (Cody) Winkle of Plano, TX, Alexa Behringer, Garett Paxton and Corbyn Paxton all of Defiance, Gavin Paxton of Round Rock, TX, his great-grandchildren, Paxton, Kace and Asher Lemieux of Blanchard, OK, and his loving sisters, Nita Boyce of Defiance and Wanda Gordon of Angola, IN.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers-in-law Jerry Boyce, Brittain Gordon and Burnell Cummins.

The family would like to thank the wonderful and gracious staff at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center and Schaffer Funeral Home for the fabulous care not only for Ted but for his family as well. Your kindness and compassion helped them through some of their most difficult days and that will never be forgotten.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 21st, 2025 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 22nd at St. Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Jason D'Souza officiating. Ted will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery, with graveside military honors conducted by VFW #3360.
