Sylvia T. (Martinez) Velasquez

Sylvia T. Velasquez, age 65 of Defiance, peacefully passed away on Saturday evening, August 24, 2024 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.   
  
She was born on August 23, 1959 to Ruben and Paulina (Angino) Martinez in Laredo, Texas. Sylvia was a graduate of Defiance High School. On August 8, 2005 she married Joe Velasquez, who survives. Sylvia was a member of St. John Catholic Church. She worked at Brookview Healthcare Center in Defiance for several years. Sylvia loved to attend live concerts, especially "Journey". She enjoyed casinos, Latin dances, and she treasured her time spent with her family. She will be incredibly missed by her family and many good friends.
  
Sylvia is survived by her loving husband, Joe Velasquez of Defiance, her children, Adalberto Vega of Defiance, Isabel (Brandall) Vega-Towns of Ft. Wayne, IN, and Rodrigo Vega of Defiance, stepdaughters, Trisha (Jason) Schroeder of Leipsic, OH and Roxanne Velasquez of Ada, OH, and stepson, Joey Velasquez of Defiance. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, and her siblings, Eloisa (Tim) Barbero, Ruben (Becky) Martinez, Marisela Martinez, Enriqueta (Lupe) Acevedo, Francisco (Elda) Martinez, Clara (Larry) Gomez, Joaquin (Debbie) Martinez, Carlos (Monica) Martinez, Alicia (Jerry) Elrod, and Jorge (Stacy) Martinez. 
  
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruben and Paulina Martinez.
  
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024 from 9:00 am to 10:45 am at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 am at St. John Catholic Church, with Fr. Jason D'Souza officiating. Sylvia will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.
