Stella Rose Shininger passed into eternal life on October 22, 2022 at her home. She was born in Defiance County, Ohio on July 11, 1941, the daughter of Carl and Agnes (Boff) Singer. She married Robert J. Shininger on August 20, 1960 at Immaculate Conception Church, Marysdale and together they raised 10 children.
As a homemaker she made a welcoming, loving, safe and secure home for her large family. A wonderful cook and baker, mealtimes were important to her and she made sure the family ate all meals together at the table. She raised a large vegetable garden, and kept a small orchard. Additionally, she assisted her husband daily on their dairy farm milking cows, feeding calves, shuttling farm equipment, record keeping, assisting vet calls and all. Later she drove tractors and the combine on their grain farm. She helped Bob to teach all their children to do the same. She enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren whether babysitting, playing cards and board games, watching them swim in the farm pond, or watching them play sports and participate in extra-curricular activities She raised transplants in her greenhouse and shared them with family and friends. She was a 1959 graduate of Fairview High School, Sherwood.
Stella was a devout, lifelong member of St. Isidore Catholic Parish where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and served as a Eucharistic Adoration coordinator. Previously she donated countless volunteer hours as a religious education teacher, funeral luncheon chairlady, sacristan, Eucharistic cup bearer, and hospice volunteer. She was a virtuous woman of faith and prayer, especially the rosary, and many relied on her good counsel.
Surviving family includes her husband, Bob, and children Stephen (Nicole) Shininger, Barbara (Steven) Coolman, Diane (Joseph) Hammon, Timothy (Anne) Shininger, Fr. Brian Shininger, Rebecca (John) Mansel-Pleydell, Douglas (Kelly) Shininger, Gregory (Karah) Shininger, Luke (Kelly) Shininger, 52 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren, and daughter by choice Simone Phillips. Surviving siblings include: Clara Meyer, Patricia Timbrook, Marilyn Oliver, Anthony Singer, Freda Meyer, and Cathy Snelling.
Preceding her in death were her parents, daughter Deborah Shininger, brother William Singer, sister Lois Nagel, and granddaughter Monica Shininger.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 26, 2022 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South-Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street, Defiance). From 5-6 pm the Rosary and Liturgy of the Word will be prayed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2022 at St. Isidore Catholic Parish- Marysdale. Burial will follow in the Marysdale church cemetery immediately following the Mass.
