Shirley Jean Manriquez

Shirley Jean Manriquez, 85, of Defiance, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family on Sunday evening, February 13, 2022 in Defiance.  
  
She was born on June 15, 1936 to David and Bessie (Perdiue) Castillo in Marion, Indiana. On September 16, 1950 she married Rafael Manriquez, who preceded her in death on September 23, 2016. Shirley was a former member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother and treasured her time spent with her family above all things. Shirley was an excellent cook and enjoyed making meals for her family. 
  
Shirley will be sadly missed by her children; Rafael Manriquez II of Defiance, Hope Sanchez and Rick (Betty) Manriquez, all of Houston, TX, and Elena (Luis) Sanchez of Ft. Wayne, IN. She also leaves 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren, and her sisters; Betty (Juan) Cisneros of Marietta, GA, Linda Smith of Marion, IN, Diane Easterly of Dale, IN, and Bonnie (Pat) Moriarty and Vickey Justice Johnson, all of Marion, IN. 
  
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Phyllis Rhodes and Sandy Berg.
  
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 18, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with Deacon George Newton officiating. Due to CDC guidelines, if you are not fully vaccinated a mask is required to enter the funeral home, and our lounge area will remain closed. Burial will follow the service at Myers Cemetery.
