Shirley A. Deitrick

Shirley A. Deitrick, age 82, of Defiance, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2025 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
  
She was born on February 18, 1943 to Leon and Vera (Smith) Gallant in Defiance. Shirley was a 1961 graduate of Stryker High School. In 1964 she married Ronald Deitrick who preceded her in death in 1975. Most recently she worked in housekeeping at ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital. Shirley loved penguins, she collected many penguin items over the years. She enjoyed doing puzzles and was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers. Shirley was known to be feisty and often stubborn but she was also very loving and caring. She will be missed by many family members and friends. 
  
She was a member of St. Michael's Ridge Catholic Church, Defiance Moose Lodge #2094, Am Vets Auxiliary #1991, and a Lifetime Member of Defiance VFW #3360 Auxiliary.
  
Shirley is survived by her three children, Barbara Deitrick of Findlay, OH, Ronda (Jon) Fabiano of Defiance and Gary (Brianne) Deitrick of New Bavaria, OH. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one sister, Jean Johnson of Defiance, and two brothers, Gary Gallant of Defiance and Jeff (Helen) Gallant of Largo, FL. 
  
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ronald, a brother, Tommy Gallant, a sister, Janie Marie Grant, and sister-in-law, Shari Gallant.
  
Visitation will be held  at Schaffer Funeral Home on Thursday, June 26, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Defiance with Fr. Melwin D'Souza officiating. Shirley will be laid to rest at Evansport Cemetery
