Shirley E Bertram, 86, of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at the Mercy Defiance Hospital.
She was born on August 21, 1936 to Harrison and Eva (Mullins) Miller in Lansing, Michigan. On March 2, 1957, she married Dennis Bertram who survives in Defiance.
Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She cherished spending time with her family. Watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren growing up was such a pleasure for her. There was so many crafts that she enjoyed throughout the years. The ongoing knitting projects were found at every corner of the house. She enjoyed gathering with her knitting friends to knit and share their projects. And when she wasn't knitting, she was quilting. She has been a member of the Tree of Life since 1993 when her grandchild, Melissa was the beneficiary.
She belonged to a number of Bridge groups, which she enjoyed immensely and met so many dear friends. In her earlier years she enjoyed camping, bowling and golfing. Shirley had met so many dear friends during her travels with Dennis. She is a member of St. John's the Evangelist Catholic Church in Defiance and a big fan of the Detroit Tigers.
Shirley is survived by her loving spouse of 66 years, Dennis and their children: daughter, Sue (Bob) Pasterz, their children Steven, Kayle, Justin Pasterz; son Kevin (Debra) Bertram, their children Laura (Brad) Federinko, their grandchildren, Annastacia, Sandra, Quinton, Coleston Federinko; Jenna Bertram; Amanda (Kyle) Rockhold their grandchildren Skylynn and Kai Rockhold; daughter, Pamela (Rick) Sanford, their children, Stephanie Wagner, their granddaughter, Kourtney; Scott (Jennifer) Sanford, their grandchildren, Landon, Lauren, Ajalyn, Elliana, Kurren Sanford; Stacy (John) Yeutter, their grandchildren, Ryan, Mackenzie, Madalyn Yeutter; Sarah (Josh) Boehringer, their grandchildren, Grace & Connor Boehringer; son, Keith (Tammy) Bertram, their children Zak (Brittany) Bertram, their grandson, Grayson; Nick Bertram; son, Michael (Tricia) Bertram and their children Abigail and Travis. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded by her parents, granddaughter, Melissa Pasterz and her siblings Gerald, Beatrice, Dorothy, Gordon, Virginia, and Betty.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, 12:00 noon at the St. John Catholic Church, Defiance, Ohio, with Fr. David Cirata, officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
