Sarepio Casarez Sr., age 91 of Defiance, peacefully passed surrounded by his family on Monday, May 30, 2022 in Defiance, Ohio.
He was born on September 3, 1930 to the late Isadore and Santos (Martinez) Casarez in Palacios, Texas. He was married to Ofelia (Garcia) Casarez who preceded him in death.
Sarepio was a member of St. John's Catholic Church. He worked for 40 years at General Motors in Defiance until his retirement in 1998. He was President and one of the founders of The Latin American Club in Defiance. He also assisted the Defiance Co. Sheriff's Office as an interpreter. Sarepio enjoyed making tamales and sharing them with family and friends.
Sarepio will be sadly missed by his children; Sarepio (Rosemary) Casarez, Jr. of Defiance, Edward (Yolanda) Casarez of Grand Rapids, MI, David (Brenda) Casarez of Defiance, Mary Ann Casarez of Bolingbrook, IL, and Monica Casarez of Chicago, IL. He also leaves behind 20 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, his brother, Pablo Casarez of Lake Odesa, MI, and his sister, Mary Elliott of Adrian, MI.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ofelia Casarez, two sons, Richard and Robert Casarez, three brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2022 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, with a Vigil Service at 2:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Friday, June 3, 2022 at St. John's Catholic Church, with Fr. David Cirata officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.
