Ruth E. Strable, age 79 of Cecil, Ohio, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, November 17, 2024 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
She was born on August 16, 1945 to the late Lester and Lodilla (Herr) Schmunk in Defiance, Ohio. Ruth was a 1963 graduate of Defiance High School. On June 9, 1962 she married Allen Parrish, who preceded her in death in December, 1998. On December 1, 2001 she married Sam Strable who survives.
Throughout her life, Ruth loved to travel. She took trips across the world and visited all fifty states. She was also proud to be Sam's co-pilot for the many trips in their airplane. She lived in Northern Michigan for almost twenty years where she learned the art of basket weaving. Her favorite place to be in her later years was at home at Cross Creek. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she loved to decorate and collect Hallmark Christmas ornaments. She also loved Ohio State and everything "Buckeye". More than anything, she loved her family and her grandkids. They were her entire world. Her mission in life was to spoil them AND to insure they were all Buckeyes.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband Sam Strable of Cecil, Ohio, her children, Stacey Parrish of Defiance and Kier (Kate) Parrish of Elk Rapids, MI, and her stepchildren; Cindy (Chris) Gile, Shelley (Jeff) Norris, Laura (Joe) Ferrell, Ben (Tracey) Strable and Becky (Josh) Scior. She also leaves behind four grandchildren; Samantha Rohrs (Frank DeMilta Jr.) of Mentor, OH, Mathias Rohrs of Napoleon, OH, Annabelle Parrish and Charles Parrish, both of Elk Rapids, MI, 13 step-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren, and her sister Peggy Stork.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband C. Allen Parrish, and siblings, Donald Schmunk, Charlotte Florence and Mary Mehring.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with Pastor Larry Kennedy officiating. Guests are encouraged to wear Ohio State attire or your ugliest Christmas sweater.
