Ruth E. Steinberger

Ruth  E. Steinberger, age 86 of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at Mercy Defiance Hospital. 
  
She was born on April 30, 1936 to the late Leon and Edna (Huss) Mitchell in Paulding County. She was married to Paul Steinberger who preceded her in death on November 18, 2007. 
  
Ruth was a faithful member of St. John Catholic Church in Defiance. She worked as a cashier and bookkeeper for A & P Supermarkets for several years until her retirement. Ruth bowled in the Defiance area Women's Bowling Leagues for over 53 years. She enjoyed cooking and canning, attending fairs and festivals, and she loved her dogs. 
  
Ruth is survived by her sister-in-law, Kathleen Mitchell of Bryan, OH, and many nieces and nephews. 
  
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Winners and Mary Brezozacki, and two brothers, Howard and Paul Mitchell. 
  
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2023 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton St.) in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home, with Deacon Nick Varano officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview Memory Gardens.
