Ruth M. (Baker) Flory

Ruth Marie Flory, age 104 of Defiance, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at Brookview Healthcare Center.   
  
She was born on May 17, 1919 to Clifford and Rose Ellen (Clementz) Baker. She graduated from Jewell High School in 1938 where she met her husband, Lester Flory, who preceded her in death  in 2005. They were happily married for 64 years.

Ruth was a faithful member of Independence United Methodist Church and a member of their Ladies Aide. She worked at Zeller Corporation during the war years and later at G.C. Murphy Company. Ruth enjoyed vacationing with her family in Indian River, Michigan and Myrtle Beach, SC. She loved all animals including her little dog "Penny". Ruth was a wonderful and loving mother and will be sadly missed.
  
She leaves behind her three daughters, Nancy (Dale) Hess, Karen (David) Saneholtz and Sally (Jeffrey) Canfield, 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and her special friend and neighbor Ruth Schafer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lester Flory, her sisters Dorothy Martin and Betty Glore, and her brother Ellis Baker.
  
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 pm on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023 at 11:00 am at Independence United Methodist Church, with Pastor Alan Fuhrhop officiating. Ruth will be laid to rest at Independence Cemetery.
