Ruth Evelyn (Gillispie) Adkins

Ruth Evelyn (Gillespie) Adkins, age 81 of Oak Hill, Ohio, passed away September 18, 2025. 
Born October 22, 1943 in Scioto County Ohio, the fifteenth child of Mary Virgie (Smith-Damron) Gillispie and George Lucian Gillispie. She was married September 17, 1961 to Grant Elmo Adkins and they enjoyed a well lived life together of over 50 years until Elmo’s passing in 2012. 
She is survived by her daughter Tammy (Christopher Todd) Williams of Charlotte, NC and son Douglas (Callie) Adkins of Wauseon, and three grandchildren; Grant Adkins, Emily Adkins, and Camryn Williams, as well as six great grandchildren. Also, dearest nieces and nephews Lana (Ricardo) Ramirez, Linda Greene, Brenda Cade, Dixie (Gary) Malone, Pam (Pete) Wilson, Billy Joe (Krista) Adkins, and Robert Shawn (Julie) Puckett. Extended family Tina Greene, Travis (Cheyenne) Cade, Anita Thaxton, Nicholas (Jordan) Adkins, Kenny Adkins, and much loved long time family friend and ally Charlie Howard. 
Ruth was a strong, nurturing, tender hearted person who cherished her family and close friends who will miss her deeply and cherish her memory. She most loved spending time with her family and keeping her home neat and clean. She was an avid TV buff, enjoyed canning from the garden, and visiting her children and grandchildren. 
Memorial services will be private. Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with arrangements.
