Russell Gene Cline went to be with the Lord passing peacefully of natural causes, September 1, 2023 at the age of 92.
Gene was born at home in Mark Center on May 19, 1931 to Russell and Mildred Cline. He graduated from Mark Center High School in 1949. Shortly after, he married the absolute love of his life, Ethel Jean Hussey on August 25, 1949.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife and two brothers Ted and Don. He is survived by his son Ken Cline (Connie) of Denton TX, Kim Langham (Michael) Mark Center OH, and Kathy Wright (Byll) South Euclid, OH. Gene was especially proud of his 6 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He told us shortly before his death that he felt so blessed and grateful for his family. He was overcome with all they have accomplished.
Most of Gene’s career was a lifelong grain and dairy farmer. He also worked at Dotco in Hicksville as a machinist until he retired in 1993. For many years Gene was active at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hicksville, OH.
Having resided within a 2-mile radius for 92 years, Gene was quite the historian for Mark Center. His memory would challenge anyone. He loved to read his local paper, and listen to his music. He especially loved music by Patsy Cline and Alan Jackson. His favorite song was “I Want to Stroll Over Heaven With You.” He and Ethel frequently enjoyed traveling to Harvest Homestead in Michigan to hear live music. They also loved to travel to visit family. Both Gene and Ethel were the proud spectators at most of their children’s and grand children’s school events.
A private interment will be held at Lost Creek Cemetery. A celebration of life will be at the home of Kim Langham 10535 Lockwood Rd. Mark Center at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 24, 2023. In lieu of flowers the family, at Gene’s request, asks that a memorial contribution be made to the Filling Home in Napoleon OH.
Gene was so loved by many and will be greatly missed.
