Roger T. Westrick

Roger Theodore Westrick, age 81 of Defiance, Ohio entered eternal rest ­­on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
 
Roger was born on July 3rd, 1941 in Defiance Ohio to Vincent and Florence Westrick. He graduated from Jewell High School in 1960 and proudly served our county in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965. He was a member of St John’s Catholic Church in Defiance and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 372. Roger also was an avid sports fan, supporting area high schools, college and youth sports.

His lifetime passion was farming, where he farmed north of Defiance. Beside farming, Roger worked at Dinner Bell Foods in Archbold and Defiance for 26 years followed by 19 years at Bil-Jax in Archbold until his retirement in 2009. 

Roger was preceded in death by his parents Vincent and Florence Westrick and brothers Robert and Gary.

He is survived by his sister Norma Jean Ludwig of Elkhart Indiana, brothers Donald (Georgienne) of Defiance and Dennis (Fred) of Carmel Indiana, sons Jeffrey (Jennifer) of Gibraltar Michigan, Patrick (Jamie) of Austin Texas, Curtis (Michelle) of Belpre Ohio, Kenneth (Amanda) of Plain City Ohio and 11 grandchildren.
 
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2023  from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton St.) in Defiance. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at St. John’s Catholic Church (510 Jackson Ave.) in Defiance, with Fr. Jason D'Souza officiating. Burial will follow the service at St. Michael’s Ridge cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff members of Glenn Park and CHP Defiance Hospice Center for the outstanding care and compassion given to Roger.

Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Catholic Church.
