Robert W. Vogel

Robert "Bill" William Vogel Jr. 80, of Defiance, Ohio, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday July 21st, 2025 at Trustwell Living at Kingsbury Place in Defiance. He was born on December 29th, 1944, to the late Robert and Evelyn (Carrick) Vogel in Butler, Indiana. On May 22nd, 1965 Bill married his high school sweetheart, Lana (Sontchi), and together they spent a loving 60 years side by side. 
Bill graduated from Defiance High School in 1963, where he was a standout athlete in football and baseball. He was a member of the 1962 Bulldog football team that was inducted into the Defiance High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018 as the Team of Honor. After graduation he went to work for Johns Manville as a machine chief, where he retired in 2010 after a 47-year career. Bill was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, Defiance Eagles #372, Defiance AmVets, and VFW post #3360. He was an avid golfer who registered a hole in one at Auglaize Country Club on April 21st, 1994. Bill loved spending time with his family, playing cards, and attending his grand children’s sporting events. He loved to talk sports, especially about his beloved Chicago Cubs. 
Bill is survived by his adoring wife Lana; children Randy (Angie) Vogel of Defiance, Christine (Scott) Clemens of Defiance, Craig (Samantha) Vogel of Defiance, grandchildren Andrea (Andrew) Boff, Morgan (Tom) Blake, Hunter (Beth) Vogel, Jennifer Clemens, Lindsay (Jaxson) Amweg, Gavin Vogel, and Bryant Vogel as well as 5 great-grandchildren and a sister, Bonnie Goldenetz. 
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Evelyn, sister Tamara McNeal, grandparents Bernard and Hazel Vogel, and a great-grandson Mason Boff. 
Bill will always be remembered as a loving husband, a dedicated father who would do anything for his children, and a fun and outgoing grandparent who loved to spoil his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all of those who were close to him. 
Visitation will be held on Sunday July 27 from 2:00 - 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance with a rosary service being held at 2:00pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 28th at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Defiance, with Fr. Dave Cirata officiating. Bill will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.
