Robert L. Vandemark

Robert L. Vandemark, age 87 of Ayersville, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday evening, October 20, 2021 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.   
  
Bob was born on May 12, 1934 to the late Clarence and Augusta (Brandt) Vandemark in Lima, Ohio. He was a 1952 graduate of Ayersville High School. On July 23, 1954 he married Patricia (Roth) Vandemark, who survives.

Bob was a faithful member of Ayersville United Methodist Church and served on the noodle club and various committees. He was a member of Ayersville Local School Board for twelve years, Ayersville Athletic Boosters, and was inducted into Ayersville School Wall of Fame. With his business partner Nelson Hahn, he owned and operated Nelson and Bob's Gulf Station before building Nelson and Bob's Auto Care. He then purchased Dee and Gee's Dairy Bar in Ayersville, where he worked daily until his retirement three years ago. Bob was an avid Ayersville High School Athletic fan, and he enjoyed family times, especially the holidays. Bob will be remembered for his kind and compassionate nature as well as his great business sense. He will be greatly missed by his family and many good friends.
  
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Patricia Vandemark of Ayersville, his daughter, Darlene Wolf of New Bavaria, OH, and his sons; Jeff (Louann) Vandemark of Hicksville, OH, and Jerry (Cindy) Vandemark of Ayersville. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren; Stacy (Dennis), Kurt (Linda), Jason, Jessica, Bradley (Marcella), Lindsay (Bela), Bryant (Becca), and Joshua, and thirteen great-grandchildren. 
  
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son-in-law, Thomas Wolf, his brothers; Harold, James, Virgil, Lawrence, and Kenneth Vandemark, and his sisters; Otha Jenkins, Leta Jones, Ruth Hurley, Betty Holmes, and Peg Stennette.
  
Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, October 25, 2021 at Ayersville United Methodist Church. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at the church, with Rev. Maurice Dunn officiating. An additional hour of visitation will be from 10-11 am Tuesday morning at the church. Burial will follow the service at Ayersville Cemetery.
