Robert L. Bochenek, age 87 of Defiance, peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Glenn Park of Defiance.
He was born in Bedford, Indiana on September 25, 1932, the son of the late Casimir and Frieda (DePierre) Bochenek.
He graduated from Bedford High School in 1950. He was accepted to attend G.M.I. in September, 1950 and graduated in 1954. Bob entered the U.S. Army in 1955. Upon leaving the services in 1956 he returned to GM in Bedford and started working in the lab. He was a member of the Bedford Jaycees and The Bedford Investment Club, and was an active member of the First Methodist Church for over 30 years.
In 1959 Bob was transferred to General Motors Powertrain in Defiance, where he worked as a Metallurgist until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of Defiance Elks #147, and Grace Episcopal Church, where he served on the church vestry and various committees. Bob also worked in the Defiance County Alzheimer's Group, and served for 25 years on the Republican Precinct Committee. He was a longtime member of the Defiance Athletic Boosters and the Purple and Gold Club at The Defiance College. He was an avid supporter of Defiance High School football and basketball, and Defiance College basketball. Bob and Jane enjoyed spending time at Clear Lake, and traveling around the world.
Bob met Jane A. Cameron in 1963, and they were married in September, 1964. Together they were the proud parents of two sons, Dr. John C. (Stephany) Bochenek and James F. (Joyce) Bochenek. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Cameron, Brayden, and Landon Bochenek, two step-grandchildren, Adrienne (Austin) Jostpille, and Seth Fuller, and his sister, Paula Bartlett.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jane Bochenek, and a sister, Valerie Brinegar.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Grace Episcopal Church in Defiance, with Pastor Don Leckrone officiating.
