Rita M. (Burkholder) Beck

Rita M. Beck, age 91 of Ridgeville Corners, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.   
  
She was born in Archbold, Ohio on August 25, 1933 to the late Orlen and Marie (Schmidt) Burkholder. Rita was a 1951 graduate of Archbold High School. On June 13, 1953 she married Darwin F. Beck, who preceded her in death on November 13, 2019. 
  
Rita was a faithful member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and she enjoyed her involvement with Altar Rosary Society. She earned her Associate's Degree from Northwest State Community College in 1972. Rita and Darwin owned and operated Beck's Petro Country Store and Ridgeville Elevator, Inc. She enjoyed bird watching and traveling, especially to Florida where she loved spending time on the beach. Rita loved baking and was affectionately known as "Betty Crocker". She always enjoyed baking birthday cakes for her employees. Rita was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
  
Rita and Darwin were happily married for over 66 years. Together they have four children, Patricia (John) Shotwell, Teresa (Jeffery) Reeb, Michael (Sally) Beck and Christine (Corkey) Haines, all of Ridgeville Corners, Ohio. Rita was the proud grandmother of five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren. 
  
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Darwin Beck, brothers Don and Bob Burkholder, and her sister Deanna Gerken.
  
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 25, 2024 at St. Michael's Ridge Catholic Church, with Fr. Melwin D'Souza officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Rita will be laid to rest at St. Michael's Ridge Catholic Cemetery.
