Raymond D. Castaneda "LA CARPA"

Raymond D. Castaneda, age 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 12 2025. He was born to the late Armando Castaneda and Juanita Orduna on December 29, 1946. 

He is survived by his wife Celia (Bautista) Castaneda who he fell in love with in 1960 and then married on November 15 1975. Also surviving are his three children, Angelica (Ernest) Mitchell, Raymond “Rocky” (Nora) Castaneda II and Tina Castaneda. He worked as a construction worker in the 80’s, later purchasing RC’s Carry Out. Raymond loved to host events enjoying family time, donating money to Hispanic organization and anybody in need. He became a grandfather to Marti, Eli, Lil Rock, Angel, Isaiah, Caleb, Kaden, Jackson, Carmela, Masen, Carmine, and Zane. step-grandfather to Nasir, Nick, and EJ. And a great-grandfather to Angelo, Santiago, Morae, Jazmyn, and coming soon Raphael. His surviving siblings, are Frank (Rosie) Ortiz, Paul (Linda) Valdez, Maggie Ortiz, Anna Ortiz and Pepe Ortiz. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Johnny Joe Valdez “The Ninja”, Louie Ortiz “Spiderman”, Armando Castaneda and sister Linda Castaneda.
 
We the family would also like to send a heartfelt, thank you to the special staff members and residents at Brookview Healthcare Center who took the time to care and love for our Dad and Grandfather, like he was their own! We want to also express our gratitude to Bill his roommate for being such a good friend to our Dad and Grandfather.
 
Raymond’s legacy of love, generosity, and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Visitation will be on Friday, February 28, 2025 from 3PM to 4PM at UAW Memorial Hall, 2120 Baltimore Road Street, Defiance, Ohio 43512. A Memorial Service will follow at 4:00 pm. 

Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with arrangements.
