Philip Fogt Obituary

Philip L. Fogt, 85, of Defiance, died peacefully in his sleep at his home on Thursday, August 16, 2018. He endured a courageous battle with heart and lung disease.

He was born at home on the family farm in Anna, Ohio on March 23, 1933 to Webster C. Fogt and Neva (McVay) Fogt. He graduated on 1951 from Anna High School . He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as Corporal in the Military Police. Always a farmer at heart, he married Patricia Stafford on November 17, 1956, relocating to Dayton, Ohio. He attended Miami (Ohio) University.

Phil was always active in the community, in local politics, boy scouts, varied school activities, and especially the Lions Club, serving as President of both the West Carrolllton and Defiance clubs. He was a faithful Christian devoted to his churches. He held a realty license and worked with Centrury 21 in Defiance. In his early career he was plant manager for Air Reduction in Dayton, sales and traffic manager of various freight companies, retiring from Brown Transport. He could not stay retired and after moving to Defiance was a courier for RDSI for nine years. Phil was an avid sports fan of the Cleveland Browns and Indians, Cincinnati Reds, and most especially OSU, watching his son Jeffrey in the Marching Band. He was proud and devoted to his son, grandchildren Clay and Sydney, following them in all their activities.

Phil will be sadly missed by his wife of sixty-one years, Patricia, his son Dr. Jeffrey Fogt, grandchildren Clay and Sydney, and a devoted niece Deborah Vaubel of Botkins, Ohio, and a canine companion "Bean".

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gail and Wayne Fogt.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Defiance. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm on Sunday at the church, with Rev. David Brobston officiating. Burial will be held on Monday, August 20, 2018 at Pearl Cemetery in Anna, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, or Fort Defiance Humane Society.
