Pablo "Paul" Esparza Briseno Sr.

Pablo Esparza "Paul" Briseno Sr., age 84 of Defiance, peacefully passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.  
  
He was born in Waelder, Texas on April 29, 1940 to the late Tomas and Florentina Briseno. On July 15, 1962 he married Amparo Huijon, who preceded him in death on September 7, 2011. 

Paul was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, AmVets #1991 and Moose Lodge #2094. He worked for 35 years at General Motors until his retirement in 2000. Paul was a huge fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. He was an avid runner and loved to run uptown and inside on the treadmill when it was too cold. He enjoyed boxing, fishing, being outdoors and taking care of his lawn, and spending time with his family.
  
Paul is survived by his children, Antonio (fiancé Kimberly Ann Semer) Briseno of Defiance, Pablo Briseno, Jr. of Dallas, GA, Jaime Briseno of Ann Arbor, MI, Stephen (Tonya) Briseno of Defiance, Thelma Briseno of Los Angeles, CA, and Sandra Briseno of Columbus, OH. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Daniel, Michael, Boston and Layla, two great-grandchildren, and siblings, Estella Fonseca Briseno, Thomas Briseno Jr. and Remijio Briseno.  
 
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Jose Briseno, Calletana "Tana" Cabrera, Andrea Alcorte Briseno, and Alphonsa "Concha" Ramos Briseno. 
  
Visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm at the funeral home with Fr. Jason D'Souza officiating.
