Nelson J. Hahn, 89, of Defiance, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2024 at Glenn Park Senior Living Community, Defiance, Ohio.
He was born on March 13, 1935 to Elmer and Lesta (Neiswander) Hahn in Defiance Ohio. On November 26, 1955, he married the love of his life Barbara Ann Kime.
Nelson was active in the Defiance community working for 30 years as co-owner of Nelson and Bob’s Auto Care with his partner Bob Vandemark. He enjoyed building the business and the daily interactions with all of his customers. Throughout his life he was active in a wide variety of ministries serving others and sharing his love for God. Upon retirement, he continued to volunteer as a mentor to small businesses and as a Hospice volunteer. He was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
A devoted husband, father, grandpa, and great grandpa, Nelson also loved spending time with his friends and extended family. Nelson enjoyed gardening, reading, writing, talking with people, and participating in sports throughout his life. If lawn mowing was a competitive sport, he would have medaled in that as well. Nelson and Barb loved spending time in Florida on the beach with family and friends.
Nelson is survived by his children, son Jeff (Peg) Hahn, son Jerry (Cheryl) Hahn, daughter Cindy (Jeff) Mack all of Defiance, and daughter Chris (Barry) Kreger of Centerville Ohio, grandchildren Philip (Monika) Hahn, Matt (Daisy) Hahn, Michael (Christina) Hahn, Jacob (Fay) Hahn, Cathy (Codey) Tyda, Chris (Kate) Hahn, Laura (Andrew) Hahn, Ryan (Erin) Mack, Shaun (Kirstie) Mack, Lauren (Kyle) Kreger, Andrew (Erin) Kreger and 20 great-grandchildren.
Nelson was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, parents Elmer and Lesta Hahn, a child at birth, and siblings: George, Elmer Jr., Howard, Mary Lloyd, Avyinelle Lloyd, and Vera Breckler.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 29th at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. David Cirata and Fr. Ed Schleter officiating. Nelson will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery.
