Nancy E. Burris

Nancy E. Burris, age 78 of Defiance, peacefully passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at Kingsbury Place in Defiance, Ohio.  
  
She was born on February 24, 1944 to Raymond and Elizabeth (Klein) Hoffman in Orange, New Jersey. On December 28, 1968 she married Dr. Robert O. Burris, who survives. 
  
Nancy was a faithful member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the Mutual Improvement Circle. She earned her Bachelor's Degree and enjoyed years of teaching English and Speech at Defiance High School, and also directed high school plays. She taught English to foreign students at The Defiance College to learn English as a second language. She was also a member of Ohio Retired Teachers Association. Nancy enjoyed her Ladies Bridge Club and mixed couples Bridge Clubs. She loved to travel, especially on cruises, and spend time at Candlewood Lake and previously at their Lake Erie cottage. Nancy enjoyed her time spent with her Florida group of friends, as well as all her friends here in Ohio. In her leisure time she enjoyed taking walks, reading, needlework and playing tennis. She supported her family and grandchildren in all their activities.
  
Nancy will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 53 years, Dr. Robert O. Burris of Defiance, her daughter, Elizabeth V. (Kyle) Baughn of Mt. Gilead, OH, her son, John H. (Carol) Burris of Aztec, NM, and her five grandchildren; Devin (Logan) Baughn, Katelin Baughn, William Burris, Elsa Burris and Brynn Burris. 
  
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Elaine Wigget, and her brother, Raymond Hoffman.
  
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 7, 2022 from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon at the funeral home, with Rev. Maurice Dunn officiating. Due to CDC guidelines if you are not fully vaccinated a mask is required to enter the funeral home, and our lounge area will remain closed. Burial will take place at Riverview Memory Gardens.
