Mitchell Farlee Obituary

Mitchell Alan Farlee, age 61 of Columbus, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 27, 2025 in Columbus.  
  
He was born in Napoleon, Ohio on December 28, 1963 to the late Roger and Karen (Coplin) Farlee. Mitch was a 1982 graduate of Tinora High School and received his Bachelors Degree in Accounting and Mathematics from Defiance College in 1988. He worked at Employees Own Federal Credit Union as accounting clerk and accounting manager from 1988 to 1990. He attended University of Toledo from 1990-1992 and graduated with his Masters Degree in Accounting. Mitch worked at the university as a graduate research/teaching assistant.

Mitch graduated from The Ohio State University in 1996 with a PH.D. with a major in Accounting and minors in Microeconomics and Statistics. He worked at Ohio State as an accounting instructor and research assistant, and taught as an assistant professor of accounting at the University of British Columbia from 1996-1999.

Later in life he returned to school at Northwest State Community College, receiving a degree in their nursing (LPN) program and at Owens Community College, receiving a degree in Health Information Management Systems.

Mitch excelled at anything academic, especially in mathematics, winning numerous awards in both high school and the university level. He also enjoyed theater, performing as Oliver in Oliver Twist at Tinora High School, and participating in plays with the Hicksville Village Players at The Huber Opera House. 

Mitch leaves behind his sister, Melissa (Mitch) Diemer of Defiance, brother-in-law Zane Zeedyk of Hicksville, OH, his nieces, Erin, Jessica, Jennie, Ashley and Chelsea, nephews Colby and Nathan, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Michele "Shelly" Zeedyk and his brother, Michael Scott Farlee.

There will be no visitation or services. Schaffer Funeral Home was honored to assist the family with arrangements.
