Michael James Batt

Michael James Batt, age 58 of Defiance, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.   

He was born on August 6, 1966 to Ronald Batt and Mary (Aden) Batt Rickard in Defiance, Ohio. Mike was a 1984 graduate of Ayersville High School, and recently attended his 40th class reunion.

Mike worked at the Car Wash, S-K Hand Tool, DMP and Multimatics. He was a very loving son, father, brother, nephew, uncle, and a dear friend to many. Mike always had a positive attitude, a contagious laugh, and was always ready for a good time. He treasured his morning coffee! He liked conversations and never met a stranger. Mike loved to ride his Harley Davidson on scenic trips. He enjoyed watching and attending sports, and was a lifetime fan of the New York Yankees and Las Vegas Raiders. He loved to read books and learn all about Robotic Welders. He also enjoyed being out in nature, hunting, fishing, and was always ready to eat. Mike will be greatly missed by his family, colleagues, and many good friends. 

Mike is survived by his parents, Mary and Phil Rickard of Defiance, his devoted daughter and future son-in-law, Sydney (Blake Proctor) Batt of North Hollywood, CA, and his compassionate and caring sister and brother-in-law, Chris (Rich) Risner of Defiance. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald Batt, and his brother Craig Batt.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2024 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, October 7, 2024 at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Fr. John Stites officiating.

Memorials are suggested to Parkview Cancer Institute, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
