Mary L. (Madden) Potts

Mary L. Potts, 90, of Defiance, passed away and went to her heavenly home on Tuesday evening, July 24, 2018 at The Laurels of Defiance.

Mary was born on September 28, 1927 to Harlan and Thelma (née Darling) Madden in Butler, Indiana. She married John Potts in 1948, who preceded her in death in 1976. She lived most of her life in Defiance, Ohio.

A long-time member of the Defiance St. Paul Methodist church, Mary was a firm believer in angels and heaven. She spent her time volunteering for DASH, reading, and watching deer and birds out her window. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. 

Mary will be sadly missed by her children Linda (Ron) Crawford, Marilyn Short, and Fred Potts, all of Defiance; grandchildren Rob (Kim) Crawford of Leo, Indiana, Randy (Susan) Crawford of Toledo, Ryan (Becky) Crawford of Dublin, OH, and Allison (Josh) Oakes of Daphne, Alabama and nine great-grandchildren. Mary is also survived by her siblings Junior Madden of Woodburn, IN, Eugene Madden of Hicksville, Gertrude Potts of Defiance, Mildred Graham and Margaret Richardson of Fort Wayne, IN, Donna Osmun of Grabill, IN, and Helen Young of Auburn, IN.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law Mike Short, brother Harold Madden, and sister Betty Baker.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 - 11:00 am on Friday, July 27 at Schaffer Funeral home in Defiance. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with Pastor John Schlicher officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery.
