Doctor Marshall Edward Fry, age 75 of Defiance, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on March 6, 1947 to the late James and Lillian Fry in Strasburg, Virginia. Marshall graduated from Martinsburg High School in West Virginia, received his Bachelor's Degree from Washington Bible College, his Masters in Divinity at Grace Theological Seminary, and his PhD from Citadel Bible College. On August 28, 1976 he married Carolyn J. Magnuson in LaPaz, Indiana.
Marshall is a member of North Mount Zion Church in Continental, and was a past member of First and Faith Baptist Churches in Defiance, and Martinsburg Bible Church in Martinsburg, WV. He was a Pastor at Hilltop Baptist Church in Burton, MI, and North Mount Zion Church in Continental. Marshall was a college professor in Flint, Michigan, and most recently the business owner of Fry Painting, Medlaw Fitness Center, and Fry Properties & Management. He was very passionate about being a Pastor for so many years. He enjoyed sports and Civil War history. Marshall has written and published his own book. He will be greatly missed by his family and many good friends.
Marshall is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Fry of Defiance, and his children; Heather Lynn (James) Eiden of Defiance, Kevin Shane (Michelle) Fry of Monroe, VA, Jeremy Allen (Nickie) Fry of Enfield, CT, and Travis Jared (Jessica) Fry of Oakwood, OH. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren; Amber (Christian) Greek, Blakely Eiden, Isaac Eiden, Levi Fry, Ryder Fry, Weston Fry, Jedidiah Fry and Josiah Fry, and his siblings; Thelma Shifflet of Middletown, VA, Ellen Barrick of Strasburg, VA, Clarence Fry of Tomsbrook, VA, Martha Stonis of Louden, NH, Dorothy Henry of Upper Marlboro, MD, and Jerry Fry of Effingham, SC.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters; Jean Snow and Jeanette Evans, and four brothers; James Fry, Elmer Fry, Bobby Fry, and Ray Fry.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home South, Lawson/Roessner Chapel (1753 S. Clinton Street) in Defiance. Additional visitation will be on Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at North Mount Zion Church in Continental. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am at the church, with Pastor Joey Stevens officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens.
