Mark L. Ensign

Mark L. Ensign, age 61, of Defiance, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2022 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio, surrounded by his loving daughters.   
  
He was born on May 8, 1960 to Larry and Kathleen (Lesh) Ensign in Defiance, Ohio. Mark was a Defiance High School graduate and earned his Masters Degree from Bowling Green State University. He worked as a Production Manager at Diehl's for several years until moving to Iowa. Mark returned to Defiance after being diagnosed with ALS. His example of courage, strength, and positive attitude will never be forgotten.

Mark was a member of Cuyahoga Valley Church, Elks Lodge #147, Eagles #372, and Masonic Lodge #794 of Free Masons in Defiance. He was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. He enjoyed fishing and reading, and loved to be at the beach and near the water. Spending time with his family was always a priority, and he will be sadly missed by his family and many good friends. 
  
Mark will be sadly missed by his daughters; Alyssa (Steve) DeTray of Defiance, and DeNae Galanakis of Creston, Iowa, and his mother, Kathleen Ensign of Defiance. He also leaves seven grandchildren that he loved so dearly, his brother, Mike (Barb) Ensign, and his sisters; Cheryl Ensign, Cathy Ensign, Cindy (Sam) Williamson, and Carolyn (Denny) Rose, all of Defiance. 
  
He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Ensign.
  
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance, with a Masonic Service at 8:00 pm. A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, February 24th at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with Pastor Joe Silva officiating. Due to CDC guidelines, if you are not fully vaccinated a mask is required to enter the funeral home, and our lounge area will remain closed. Burial will take place at Riverview Memory Gardens.
