Marjorie Ruth (Knowles) Case, of Defiance, passed away at Glen Park of Defiance in the loving company of her children, Don and Patti on July 11th, 2023. She was 94.
Marge was born on April 3rd, 1929, to Donald and Julia (Schadwald) Knowles in Dundee, MI. The oldest of five children, Marge excelled in school. After graduating from Monroe High School in 1946, she met the love of her life, Ned Case. The two were married on a national radio show at the famous Knickerbocker hotel in Hollywood, CA on July 12th, 1950. They moved to Defiance, OH, and went on to have 3 children: Constance, Donald, and Patricia. Marge, a talented homemaker, was well-regarded locally for her warm hospitality and her beautiful home and garden, which earned her a spot in a local Garden of the Month series. She loved to golf at her home course, Kettenring Country Club, and to entertain family and friends. She had a creative eye and a knack for decorating, and took great joy in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She regularly attended St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and was involved in several bridge clubs. Those who knew Marge would say that she always found a way to make them feel special.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ned Case, daughter Connie Maberson, brothers Alan Knowles and Gerald Knowles and sister Mary Ellen Liedel.
She will be fondly remembered by her children, Don (Tracey) Case, Patti (Ron) Gutman; by her sister, Marilyn Heller; by her grandchildren, Jennifer (Brent) McInnis, Kyle Gutman, Jessica (Josh) Rowe, Alex Gutman, Marc (Emily) Case; by her great-grandchildren, William and Harper McInnis, Atticus Gutman, and Charles Case; and by many other family members and friends.
The family is heartbroken at the loss of Marge, but are finding peace in knowing that she was reunited with Ned on the day before their wedding anniversary and was able to celebrate Connie’s birthday with her on her first day in heaven.
A funeral service for Marge will be held at 12:00pm on Thursday, July 13th at Schaffer Funeral Home, preceded by a visitation from 11:00am to 12:00pm. After the service, there will be a family-only committal service at Riverview Memory Gardens.
The family suggests that in lieu of giving flowers, you plant flowers in remembrance of Marge.
