Marion L. "Money" Retcher, age 92 of Defiance, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025 at Mercy Defiance Hospital.
He was born on December 4, 1932 to Alva and Matilda (Stork) Retcher in Defiance, Ohio. Marion attended LaSalle University in Chicago for two years. On June 27, 1958 he married Alice (Goller) Retcher who preceded him in death on March 4, 2005. On August 19, 2017 he married Marjory (Hire) Stites who survives.
Marion was a faithful member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church and was a past Trustee. He worked for Dinner Bell Foods from 1960-1990 and at Homier Implement from 1990-1994. Marion was friendly, very personable and never met a stranger. He had a true passion for working on his farm, and was the owner of Retcher Seeds since 1959. He was a member of Ridgerunners Farm Bureau Council and past 4-H Advisor for Premium Production. Marion had an extraordinary work ethic and was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Marion enjoyed spending time at Clear Lake with family and friends as well as attending church at Clear Lake Lutheran Church. He certainly had a love for Christ as he often would attend Mass with Margie at St. John’s Catholic Church in Defiance. He sold seed for 10 different companies always striving to give customers excellent service. He enjoyed morning visits with farmers at the Stanley Elevator. He enjoyed attending all sporting events, especially high school basketball. He treasured his time spent with his family and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Marion is survived by his loving wife Margie Retcher of Defiance, his children, Marvin (Penny) Retcher of Fremont, IN, Marty (Pam) Retcher and Mary Alice (Rich) Nagel, all of Defiance, stepdaughter Barbara (Dan) Pasquara of Waltham, MA, stepsons Robert (Jena) Stites and William (Heather) Stites of Defiance, and Thomas (Kristen) Stites of Sylvania. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Corey (Brooke) Nagel, Kacee (Eric) Weber, Cody (Savannah) Nagel, Preston (Morgan) Retcher and Kara Retcher, great-grandchildren, Kolbyn, Kasyn and Kelbie Nagel, Aubree, Kaylee, Lanie and Kenzie Weber, Emmett Nagel, Addison and Avery Retcher, step-grandchildren Vincent and Dana Pasquara, Piper, Lily and Dylon Stites, Mary Blue, Evan Brown, Callie Shaw, Dakota (Chris) Solly, Kiley Crannis, Weston, Izzy and Embree, and one step-great-grandson Callen Solly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Alice Retcher, brothers Wayne and Larry Retcher, and sisters Imogene Hoellrich and Thelma Gerken.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025 from 2-8 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 9th at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, with Rev. William Stottlemyer officiating. One hour of additional visitation will be from 9-10 am at the church before the service. Marion will be laid to rest in St. Stephen Lutheran Cemetery.
