Marilyn Richey Obituary

Marilyn D. Richey (Grandma Mick to most all that knew her) Age 88, of Ayersville, Ohio Passed on to be with Our Lord on Wednesday January 29 at CHP Hospice of Defiance. She was surrounded by family returning all the love she’s given us all her many years.

She was born November 7, 1936, to Don and Mary (Hablewetz) Washler who preceded her in death. Marilyn grew up on a little farm with six brothers and sisters. She loved to tell the tales of her childhood on that small farm in St. Joe, Indiana. She will forever be thought of when Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune comes on the T.V. All of her grandkids are better off in life learning everything they needed to know with rounds of Scrabble or Monopoly. She never missed an event, most of the time she came bearing gifts. And she would sit in the hot sun for long days watching her grandkids at horse shows, or in hard chairs watching wrestling meets just to be with them. Marilyn worked for the Defiance Crescent News for over 20 years plus several years in Real Estate.

She will be sadly missed by her siblings, Phil (Karen) Washler, Ruth (Richard) Stevens and Stan Washler who survive. Marilyn is survived by daughters, Victoria Hull of Indianapolis, IN, Cheryll (Bob) Ankney of Ayersville, OH, Trella (Hop) Batten of Wichita, KS, and Sandi Pumphrey of Paulding, OH and stepsons, Bruce (Jeanne) Richey of Columbus, OH, and Brent Richey of Alaska, grandchildren- Stan (Leslie) Ankney, John (Mindy) Ankney, Cannina (Kenny) Lewis, Jamie (John) Merriman, Jim (Tanya) Pumphrey, Lori (Adam) Schlegel, Casey (Thor) Etter, Adam (Jenne) Borst , John (Megan) Phillips, Austin and Justin Richey. She also leaves behind great grandchildren - Andrea and Marissa Ankney, Levi and Maddison Ankney, Summer (Nathan Schlegel) Pumphrey, Autumn (Kyle) Stalnaker, Jordyn and Ally Jo Merriman, Civil and Jimmie Pumphrey, Stroker, Audrey and Coal Etter, Olivia and Emi Borst, and Johnny Phillips, great great grandchildren - Slade, Storie, and Scotlyn Schlegel, Lillyann, Ruby and Lucy Stalnaker, Cole Phillips and many nieces, nephews and cousins who loved her. She truly had a village of people who she never missed an opportunity to show she loved them by being present, and though she will be greatly missed we can just hear her saying “And this too Shall Pass” and we’re left with the best memories of the best mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend that we could have been gifted in life.

Preceding her in death was her beloved husband, Julian Richey. Marilyn was also preceded in death by her siblings Ed (Suzanne) Washler, Luella Washler, Nyla Sue Washler, Carolyn Washler and Carole Washler, her son in law Jim Pumphrey, first husband, Donald Hull of Defiance, OH.
