Marian B. Steingass, 84, of Defiance, passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the Laurels of Defiance.
She was born on August 21, 1930 to Edward and Wilhemina (Plassman) Brandt in Adams Twp., Defiance Co., OH. On December 16, 1950 Marian married Dale Steingass and he preceded her in death on October 27, 2011.
She was an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church where she served in numerous capacities including Sunday School teacher, treasurer and secretary. She also participated in the Women of the Church where she served on various committees. Marian was also a member of the North Richland Extension Homemakers and a 4-H Club advisor for many years. She enjoyed photography, bowling, sewing, baking and gardening. Marian was also a freelance writer and enjoyed spending time with family.
She is survived by her sons, William (Mary) Steingass of Defiance, Bruce (Amy) Steingass of Pandora, daughters, Beverly (Rick) Manon of Defiance, Rebecca (David) Bockelman of Defiance, Barbara Steingass of Bryan, Bethanne (Dale) Falther of Baltimore, OH, grandchildren, Kim Berry, Jeremy Manon, Dr. Katherine Steingass, Krista Boff, Kelly Justinger, David Steingass, Jennifer Billings, Joseph Schultz, Logan, Halle Steingass, Zachary, Tyler Falther, great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Joshua ,Dylan , Evan, Riley, Benjamin, Karis & Zachary Berry, Caleb, Collin Boff, Garrett Justinger, and one on the way, Trista, Allison, Jordan Guyton, Zoe Billings, brothers, Marvin (Emma) Brandt of Defiance, Stephen (Jeanne) Brandt of Centerville, sisters, Virginia Brandt of Mansfield, Rev. Alvera Brandt of Sylvania, and Marlene Brandt of Tecumseh, MI.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dale, brothers, Wilferd, Robert, Raymond & Edward Brandt and a sister, Joyce Connor.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, September 07, 2014 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance and from 10-11 a.m. Monday at the church.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2014, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Rev. Robbie Ketcham officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mark's Lutheran Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to St.Mark's Lutheran Church.
