Maria Socorro Perez

Maria Socorro Perez, age 84, of Defiance, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
  
She was born on January 25, 1941 to Manuel and Maria (Del Rio) Perez Garcia in Torreon Coahuila, Mexico. Maria proudly worked as an Operating Room Technician for Defiance Hospital for 21 years until her retirement in 1982. After retirement she spent her time loving and caring for her family. She enjoyed bowling with her league at Al's Bowling Alley, using her talents as a seamstress to make dresses for loved ones, crocheting, watching Novelas and listening and singing along to Rachero music. Maria was known to all as very caring and welcoming, raising kids outside of her own and taking in anyone who needed her. She enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren, including participating in school events. Maria's warm heart and welcoming arms will be missed by many family members and friends.
  
She was a member of St. John Catholic Church, the Guadalupe Society and the Latin American Club.
  
Maria is survived by her children, Robert G. Perez, Michael D. Perez, Maria Perez-Rodriguez and Dolores Perez, all of Defiance, 9 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
  
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Aurora Garcia, and Guadalupe Marroquin, one brother, David Del Rio, one grandson, Eduardo DeLeon, and a great-granddaughter, Anaya Hernandez-Coil.
  
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 9th at St. John Catholic Church in Defiance, with Fr. Kevin McGraw officiating. Maria will be laid to rest in Riverview Memory Gardens.
