Lowell A. Elders, Sr.

Lowell A. Elders, Sr., 85, of Defiance, passed away on December 15, 2025 at Mercy Hospital in Defiance.  

He was born on August 26, 1940 to Jessie James and Nina Mae (Venable) Elders in Birmingham, Alabama. On March 10, 1962 he married Roberta Marihugh, who survives.

He was a faithful member of Restoration Tabernacle. Lowell enjoyed scrapbooking and listening to music. He was an avid fan of Alabama football. Lowell was his children and grandchildren's biggest fan and never missed a sporting event. He will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.

Lowell is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Roberta L. Elders of Defiance; children, Mark (Chris) Elders of Edgerton, Lowell (Lisa) Elders, Jr. of Defiance, and Shawn (Dennis) Delaraber of Defiance; grandchildren, Amanda, Jesse, Ashley, Mason, Jordan, Josh, and Chivonn; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Eleanor, Evelyn, Lindsey, Ryan, Taylor, Charlotte, Vera, and Mable; and brother, Charles "Red" (Mary Ellen) Elders. 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Jacob Elders, and brothers, Melvin, Louis, Ed, and Jim.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 19, 2025, from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Schaffer Funeral Home, in Defiance. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, 11:00 am at the funeral home, with Rev. H. G. Strickland, officiating. Lowell will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.
