Lois "Jean" McKay, 88, of Defiance, passed away on Thursday morning, January 1, 2026 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
She was born on April 24, 1937 to the late Delmar and Ruth (Parks) Partee in Defiance, Ohio. She was married to James Roehrig in 1957, and in 1987 she married Raymond McKay who preceded her in death in 2000.
Jean was a former member of First Church of Christ and VFW #3360 Auxiliary. She worked at Goldenetz Grocery Store, Bunny Bread Box, the Defiance College Cafeteria, and most recently in the Deli at Chief Supermarket. She was a member of Defiance Senior Center Auxiliary and proudly volunteered for CHP Defiance Hospice. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and karaoke to Patsy Cline. She was formerly known as the "Cookie Lady" by the regulars at Maag's Cafe. Above all Jean loved her family and friends and will be greatly missed by so many that loved her.
Jean is survived by her son, Lonnie (Jody) Roehrig of Defiance, her sisters, Joyce (Dave) Wolfrum and Cheryl (Randy) Morehead, and her brother Mike Beiswenger. She also leaves behind three grandchildren, David (Melissa) Kern, Taylor (Jason) Lasley and Kyle (Myah) Kern, and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her step-parents, Wilma and Jerry Chandler, husband Raymond McKay, sons Thomas Roehrig and Dan Roehrig and brothers Richard "Dick" Beiswenger and James Partee.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Celebrant Deb Miller officiating. Jean will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery.
