Leo "Pete" V. Wiseman of Defiance, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023 at CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born on June 1, 1934 in Highland Township to the late Ray and Fannie (Shuler) Wiseman.
Pete retired from Zeller Corporation and also was a life-long farmer. He was not afraid of hard work, which was evident in his multiple pristine gardens. At different times in his life, he had sheep, pigs and cows, with the cows being his favorite. He never met a pie he didn't like, and he looked forward to making homemade ice cream every summer. He was always the first one to plow out a neighbor's driveway or provide produce to anyone who stopped by.
In 1965 he married Marilyn Whiteford who passed away August 7, 2013. He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Wiseman-Mobley, and three stepchildren: Jodie (Whiteford) Mohr, John Whiteford and Charles (Sonia) Whiteford, four grandchildren: Charles Whiteford, Eric Whiteford, Kristin Whiteford and Sarah Mobley, and six great-grandchildren.
Surviving siblings are John (Beth) Wiseman and Faye Hall. Preceding him in death was Agnes McBride, Ruth Wiseman, Mildred Wiseman (infant), Lucille Heuer, Edna Mason, Paul "Hank" Wiseman, Frank Wiseman, Lavon Wiseman and Mary Ann Hunt.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023 at 10:00 am at the funeral home, with Pastor Jason Vandemark officiating. Burial will follow the service at Sherman Cemetery.
