Lawrence "Larry" Urban Wagner, age 76 of Defiance, passed away in his home surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, April 7, 2025.
He was born in Napoleon, Ohio on November 18, 1948 to the late Urban and Edith (Seifert) Wagner. He attended Sacred Heart School and was a 1967 graduate of Holgate High School. Larry proudly served our country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was married to Lynette Schmunk for 30 years. In 2005 he married Judy Swan who survives.
Larry was a member of Defiance VFW #3360 and Local UAW #211. He worked for General Motors for 43 years until his retirement in 2011. In his leisure time he enjoyed gardening, traveling, going to flea markets, fishing and shooting cans with his grandson. Larry was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He was always taking people into his heart and was loyal to those he loved. Larry had his own personal code of honor and helped anyone in need. His legacy and love will continue to inspire all who we blessed to know him. Larry had a compassionate soul and will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
Besides his loving wife Judy, he leaves to cherish his memory: his daughter, Susan (Ben) Polasek, stepdaughter, Dr. Melissa (Justin Atchley) Babcook, his grandson, Reagan Polasek (Cierra Black), his brother, Ron (Karen) Wagner, brother-in-law, Denny (Janet) Hohenbrink, sister-in-law, Cindy (Gary) Wagner, and a special aunt, Rita (Jim) Shiarla, and a host of many other uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gary Wagner, and sister, Janet Hohenbrink.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2025 from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 14th at the funeral home. Larry will be laid to rest in Riverview Memory Gardens with graveside military rites conducted by VFW #3360.
